Gareth Edwards brought us the remake of Godzilla in 2014. Since then, Hollywood has delved into some of these classic Japanese and Japanese-inspired historical films for more content, creating one of the more successful (if still small) shared universes. This is the MonsterVerse timeline.
What’s on the MonsterVerse timeline?
So far, there is little to add to this particular timeline. It consists mostly of films, starting with the Godzilla remake in 2014. But it also includes the spin-off based on King Kong, that actually takes place earlier in the timeline, building up for a Godzilla vs. King Kong movie.
You will also find various comics, used as tie-in prequels to some of the films. These are recent, and decent reads if you’re looking to flesh out some of the background story.
Why is Pacific Rim on this timeline?
Okay, yes, strictly speaking Pacific Rim is not OFFICIALLY part of the MonsterVerse timeline. But it fits so perfectly well that I really like the idea of including it. And it takes place in the future, so it has little impact on the timeline, so I’m leaving it for now.
In the future, if things are really clear that they’re two separate universe, I will spin-off Pacific Rim into its own timeline.
Where to Start the MonsterVerse?
There are two good starting places with this timeline. The first would be the 2014 Godzilla that started it all. But Kong: Skull Island is also another really great place to start, and stands completely alone.
Additionally, if you like this timeline, you might like some of our others like the Jurassic Park timeline. As usual, be sure to let us know if there’s something we missed or could improve. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy!
Where are the Pacific Rim tie ins (Year One and company)???
