Among the so-called “big four” pulp magazines, Short Stories was one of the largest. It’s hundreds of issues gave us literal thousands of (you guessed it) classic short stories. This is the list of Short Stories Magazine issues.

What is Short Stories Magazine?

Short Stories Magazine was a fiction magazine that started in 1890, and ran until 1959. It originally began as a literary periodical, and carried stories from prestigeous writers such as Rudyard Kipling and Anna Katharine Green. It was known for trying to be a “quality pulp” with an emphasis on higher quality fiction.

The magazine would go on to be one of the most successful of the early 20th century, with tens of thousands of issues sold every month.

What’s in this List of Short Stories Magazine?

Though the magazine started in 1890, it didn’t really become what we would define as a pulp magazine until much later. That is why this timeline starts in 1910, by which time the magazine was shifting to be more like its cousins Argosy and All-story.

Wherever possible, we’ve collected as many PDF scans of the issues that we can. If you don’t see a PDF here, that likely means that we were unable to find it online. As we find more resources with more information on the different issues out there, we will include them here.
